Özet: The aim of this study is to reveal how the 5th grade students taking part in the research interpret the concept of ‘light pollution’ conducted as part of “Light and Sound Propagation” unit. The study group of the research constitutes the 5th grade students at a secondary school which is a transfer center for the secondary school students from the surrounding villages situated within Çumra town of Konya province in Academic Year 2016-2017. 41 people including 24 girls and 17 boys participated in the study. Phenomenology pattern, one of the qualitative research methods, was applied in this study. Drawing technique was used as data collection tool in order to determine the students’ perceptions. All the students participating in the study were asked to draw a picture reflecting their ideas related to light pollution. Behind the pictures, they were expected to express what they wanted to say in their drawings. As a result of the research, it was determined that the 5th grade students participating in the research performed drawings with regards to lighting engineering and the adverse effects of light pollution on astronomy, creatures and nature. In addition, it can be said that the students have become aware of light pollution.
