Özet: According to general acceptance, the history of man is classified as the First Age, the Middle Age, the New Age, and the Modern Age. Although there are differences in names and the events that trigger the change, it is a widely accepted fact that the invention of writing affects the majority of humanity, the migration of tribes, the collapse of Byzantium, the conquest of Istanbul, and the industrial revolution have been effective. Major and influential phenomena experienced over long periods have been accepted as a gate between ages and history has been analyzed by dividing it into various periods. Today, scientists propose many names such as “Machine Age, Internet Age, Science Age, Computer Age, Space Age” for the age we live in, but it is not possible to say that they agree on one name. This age, which has met with the mechanization starting with the Industrial revolution, the automation that followed it, and the digital artificial intelligence systems that progress without stopping today, is experiencing dizzying developments every day. The speed with which humanity meets prevents it from giving a name to the era in which it lives. Because before there is an opportunity to develop a well-round opinion about the developments and phenomena, new ones emerge and this goes on like an endless circle. The modern age affects our senses, thoughts, and perceptions more than the illusion of a magician. This activity is successful not because of an inner and spiritual depth, but by distracting our attention and thoughts. In the age we live in, the temporary pleasures caused by many activities that gnaw the human soul, consume spiritual values, isolate and even commodify human beings, distract man from what is for his sake and drag him into endless chaos and disturbances that he cannot make sense of. The quantities possessed today have not been sufficient to fill the qualitative needs of the human being or the emptiness occurred due to the removal of qualitative elements from his life. Trying to compensate for this gap with more material elements is just an illusion and has thrown a person into a lively hustle where he cannot predict where it will lead him. However, a person needs qualitative things in his life as much as he needs quantity, to stop and calm down a little as much as he needs the hustle. The Qur'an expresses many blessings for the man with derivatives of the concept of sakinah. In the harshest times of the war, the hearts of believers were comforted by the sakinah. Apart from this, things such as a spouse, night, dwelling, and the prayer of the prophet are mentioned as things in which people can find shelter and tranquility. The Prophet informed the believers that sakinah would be realized by people through various acts. The first meaning expressed by the root “s-k-n” and its derivatives, which are frequently used in the texts of the Qur'an and Hadith is ‘sukun' which means without any difference between abstract or concrete. Especially, texts in which the form “sakinah” is used make it possible to be interpreted as both a concrete and abstract reality. The lack of authentic evidence as to what the Sakinah phenomenon is, does not allow approaches to it to go beyond “tevil”. However, regardless of whether it is accepted as a concrete or abstract entity, the conclusion to which the concept is subject is the same in both cases: That is God's granting of spiritual calmness, heartfelt trust, and inner trust to the believers in some difficult predicaments they face. Therefore, the concept of sakinah has a parallel meaning to the dictionary meaning. Today, with the events which leave no room for even the opportunity to ask “what happened”, unpredictable events, which erodes individual and societal values, and makes people rush about with a great hurry, anxiety, tension, and speed, where is the phenomenon of “human” being thrown? Is what humans need only speed, movement, development, progress, growth, and domination? Does not a person who overcomes physical restrictions every day with all the hustle, fear, and anxiety he constantly struggles with, move away from his inner calmness, and the spiritual peace he seeks most of the time? The Qur’an reports that Allah has sent down “sakinah” into the hearts of believers in the face of many negative situations, fear, anxiety, and tension that a person has to struggle with. In this study, “sakinah”, which expresses a kind of inner/heart peace, was investigated by associating it with the chaotic and dynamic state of the era.
