Özet: In addition to being an Ash‘arite theologian Ashh’ari was also a theoretician of usûl al-fiqh. Although there are different evaluations of Ash‘ari's fiqh identity in biographical studies, it is necessary to say that the Shâfi'î school has embraced him strongly. However, Ash‘arî has his own authentic views in usûl al-fiqh without being connected to any sect. Some of the views defended by Ash‘arî in usûl al-fiqh differ from the views of Shâfi‘î. This study deals with Ash‘arî’s opposition to Shafi’i and the established views of Shâfi‘î sect and the results of this opposition. Given the fact that Ash‘arî and Shâfi‘î represent an eclectic structure in the historical process, it is certain that Ash’ari’s opposition to Shâfi‘î has caused an intellectual dynamism in Shâfi‘î sect. This study in which we aim to reveal the effect of this dynamism stemming from Ash‘arî/Ash’arism on the development of Shafi's usûl al-fiqh points to the differentiation and change in the usûl al-fiqh.
