Özet: Insurance fraud is one of the important risks that the insurance system is exposed to because it threatens insurance’s basic principle: trust.  In recent years insurance fraud is one of the most frequently discussed issues in the Turkish insurance sector. It is a highly complex form of crime that can cover every individual and business from various circles in some way in contact with the insurance policy. Insurance frauds can occur in various forms in various branches and create additional costs for the insurance sector. Even more dangerous, insurance fraud, which threatens the sustainability of the system by adversely affecting the basic principle of trust, is one of the important problems of all players in the insurance system and increasing the awareness level of all players about this problem is vital for preventing and detecting insurance frauds. Purpose of the study is to explain insurance frauds and to make evaluations about insurance frauds for Turkish insurance sector. In this context, this study aims to increase awareness about insurance fraud in Turkey and to provide contribution to the fight against fraud.
