Özet: This study was done in order to evaluate the activities in the 8th grade Turkish textbook in terms of higher-order thinking skills. Within the scope of the study, the activities in the 8th grade Turkish textbook were evaluated in the context of higher-order thinking skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, reflective thinking and problem solving skills. In the study carried out according to the qualitative research method, document analysis was preferred as the data collection method. In order to ensure the reliability of the research, reliability betweencoders was used and a 90% agreement was reached. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method.In this study, a total of 192 activities in the 8th Grade Turkish textbook which belong to MEB Publications and were started to be taught in the academic year of 2019-2020 were evaluated. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that 37 of the 192 activities were directed towards critical thinking, 35 creative thinking, 35 reflective thinking and 15 problem solving skills. Although the sum of the activities for higher-order thinking skills (122) is seen as a significant number, it can be stated that the number of activities for each higher-order thinking skill is extremely insufficient. In the context of the findings, it is recommended to increase the number of activities which address higher-order thinking skills in the Turkish textbook, to investigate the ideas of Turkish teachers working in schools on this subject, and to investigate the activities aimed at higher-order thinking skills in Turkish textbooksin terms of the achievements in the Turkish Teaching Program (2018).
