Özet: This study aims at putting forward suggestions about the development of cultures of thinking in science teaching, and the necessity of developing this culture. The national and international literature regarding the concepts such as “science teaching”, “the skills of 21st century “and “the cultures of thinking” have been reviewed for that purpose, and this article has attempted to present a theoretical framework accordingly. The cultures of thinking is an approach that brings a sociocultural perspective to the teaching of thinking skills. This approach is derived from a project carried out by a research center at the Harvard institute of educational sciences (Project Zero). The most important limitation of this review is the lack of empirical research findings on the application of the cultures of thinking approach in science teaching at national and international level. In fact, science is one of the main subject areas that require the development of students' thinking skills as it involves scientific thinking processes and is frequently mentioned together with the concepts of innovation (transformation). In other words, in science teaching, it is thought that not only giving information about the subject area is sufficient but also developing and supporting thinking skills for processing this information is an important variable. For this reason, in this study, it is planned to put forward the theoretical background for the development of culture of thinking in the context of science teaching and to give suggestions for adapting this culture to science education.
