Özet: Intensive anxiety of parents of mentally retarded childrencan cause problems in the family from time to time. To identify thesource/s of anxiety is important in determining the type, amount andway of supply of assistance needed by these families. This can onlybe accomplished by examining the characteristics of such families.The subjects of this research consist of mothers and fathers of 255mentally retarded children, who are at the teachable and trainablelevels. Demographic information concerning the subjects wascollected systematically on a uniform form. The State Trait AnxietyInventory developed (1970) by Spielberg and his friends in order todetermine the anxiety level of parents of mentally retarded children,was also utilized.In statistical operations, analysis of one-way variance was utilized.Test of importance of difference of two averages was also utilized,and the p values, which have been meaningful in variance, wereanalyzed by Tukey HSD.The level of meaningfulness of data testing was accepted as 0. 5. Asa result of the evaluation of this research data, it was proven thatthere is no difference in groups of age or sex concerning theaverages of the level of continuous anxiety of mothers. However,while there is no difference in groups of age among fathers, there is adifference in groups of sex in the averages of the level of continuousanxiety.
