Özet: The continuous attempts of a group of people in order to bring about change or toprevent change in the society or in the group, of which they are members arecalled social movements. Social movements which constitute of disabled personsare almost nonexistent in Turkish society, contrary to Western societies. One ofthe most important reasons is the fact that Turkish society has not been able toconstruct the identity of disabled. This paper aims at investigating the relationshipbetween culture, identity and social movements and the impact of culture on theconstruction of identity. A further aim of the paper is to illuminate the relationshipof this phenomenon with social movements in the context of disability
