Özet: Urbanization, family structure transformation and the growing of the ageing population are increasing the numbers of nursing homes. It is known that people's view of nursing homes differs according to social, cultural and traditional values. The aim of this study is to evaluate the perspectives of the residents of Sultangazi Nursing Home, which was opened in Istanbul in 2014 under the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Family, Labour and Social Services, and to examine whether there was a change in nursing home perceptions after a nursing home was opened in their environment. The study was conducted using an in-depth interview technique in a qualitative research pattern. Interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview form. The sample group consisted of 20 people (14 females & 6 males) , ranging from 21 to 90 years old. The duration of the interviewees' residence in Sultangazi varies between 7 and 50 years. According to the data obtained from the study; more than half of the interviewees regard stayin in nursing homes as an indicator of loneliness. The majority of the interviewees stated that after the opening of the nursing home in their environment, there had been a positive change in their view of nursing homes.
