Özet: Changing technology and consumer habits in the welfare of society is increasing with changing expectations of every day. These technological developments and comfortable life expectations increase the product and quantity produced. This directly affects the consumption rate of natural resources. In addition, waste generated as a result of consumption creates a problem in terms of environmental health and natural resources. In this regard, recycling is inevitable both to reduce the use of natural resources for new product production and to minimize the environmental impact of waste generated as a result of consumption. In this study, the utilization potential of urban solid wastes generated in Karaman to be utilized in the context of compost and recycling has been examined. In the study, it was determined that 68270 tons of municipal solid waste is generated annually in Karaman. It constitutes that 45.08% of this solid waste is kitchen waste, 3.41% park and garden waste and 30.36% recyclable waste. The daily average amount of packaging waste collected by the licensed facility throughout Karaman is 10380 kg, corresponding to 5.6% of the solid waste generated. The ratio of the amount of packaging waste collected to the amount of recyclable waste is 18.6%. In the province of Karaman, there are 7 automatic compost machines with a capacity of 1000 L/week, and the composting process is not actively carried out. As a result, the recycling potential of the Karaman province has a value that should be taken seriously and it should be managed by zero waste principles.
