Özet: Aim: The aim of our study was to evaluate the patients who were admitted to the emergency department as drug intoxication and then followed up and treated in the internal medicine department with regard to their demographic characteristics, the drugs they received for intoxication and their prognosis. Material and Method: The study included 248 patients who were followed-up and treated in the Internal Medicine Department for drug intoxication between 2013-2018. Patients were evaluated in terms of gender and age characteristics, psychiatric drug use history, educational status, the nature of the drugs they received for intoxication, the number of drugs they received, their prognosis and length of hospital stay. Results: The study included 248 patients who were followed up and treated as drug intoxication in the Internal Diseases service. Of these patients, 161 (64.9%) were female and 87 (35.1%) were male. The mean age was 27.8 ± 14.7 (18-64) years in female patients and 24.2 ± 13.8 (18-53) years in male patients. While 108 (43.5%) of the female patients were single, 64 (25.8%) of the male patients were single. While 91 (36.6%) of the female patients had a history of psychiatric medication in their background, 38 (15.3%) of the male patients had a history of psychiatric medication use. The majority of cases of drug intoxication (45.9% of patients) were primary school graduates. The majority of the patients (24.7%) were poisoned with antidepressant drugs, while the second group (18.3%) had paracetamol poisonings. 82.4% of the patients had a history of taking suicidal drugs. In 138 (55.6%) patients, there was only one group of medications. Of the patients, 71 (28.6%) were hospitalized for one day. Of the 248 patients, only 13 (5.2%) were transferred to the intensive care unit due to the deterioration in their general condition. Conclusion: The majority of cases of intoxication were found to be young women, especially with antidepressant drugs intended for suicide.
