Özet: From past to present, plants and seeds have been used as a source of healing besides food. It is known that, plants and seeds were used as healing sources were used by trial, coincidence and advice. Black seed (Nigella sativa L.) is a species of Ranunculaceae family that has been used in the treatment of many diseases since ancient times; is a flowering plant belonging to the small shrub and buttercup family. It has been used as a source of healing in Middle Eastern countries for many years and has been glorified with unique names. The chemical components of black seeds, used for a healthy life in large cultures due to its content that helps to remove toxins from the body and does not disturb the body building block. The black seed consists of 23% protein, 38% carbohydrates and 35% vegetable oils. Contains nigellon, thymoquinon, linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, magnesium, selenium, phosphorus, vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin C. In addition Nigella sativa is cultivated in our country and it is seen that wild forms. With known by different names in different parts of the world, Nigella in Turkey is such names as black seed and black cumin, Nigella. In Anatolia; to high demand for black seed cultivation; around some cities as Burdur, Afyon, Isparta, Amasya, Mersin, Istanbul, Gaziantep and Kahramanmaraş. The wild black seeds was seen in natural flora of Amasya, İçel, Gaziantep, Istanbul (Rumeli poplar-Rumeli lighthouse), Kocaeli (Tuzla), Kahramanmaraş, Kars (Tuzluca) and Siirt. The aim of this study; to present both naturally grown wild black seed in Turkey as well as giving general information about the usage and importance of the black cumin plant cultured, draw attention to this plant breeding and to create resources for new studies about the quality.
