Özet: In this study, four male Kıvırcık yearlings with permanent rumen cannula were used. The animals were fed according to a 4 x 4 Latin square design over 20-day periods (15-day adaptation period, 5-day collection period). The animals were fed four different ration types. Rations I and II consisted of a 70% alfalfa straw and 30% concentrate mixture, while Rations III and IV consisted of a 30% alfalfa straw and 70% concentrate mixture. Rations II and III were supplemented with a daily dose of 4 g of Yea-Sacc1026 (Alltech, Nicholasville; 5 x 109 CFU g-1) Saccharomyces cerevisiae live yeast culture. Rumen contents were collected at 0 (before feeding), 3 and 6 h on days 1 and 5 and analyzed for pH, total protozoa counts, total volatile fatty acid (TVFA) concentration, ammonia-N (NH3-N), rumen fluid sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), ruminal cellulolytic activity and percentages of different protozoa. The addition of Sc live yeast culture had significant effects (P < 0.05) on the percentage of Dasytricha ruminantium (before feeding, Ration III 0.31%, Ration IV 1.75%) and Diplodinium spp. (before feeding Ration I 4.69%, Ration II 14.62%). During the same period (before feeding) Sc live yeast culture tended to increase protozoa counts (P > 0.05). It was concluded that the rations of high forages and high concentrate supplemented with Sc live yeast culture had no significant effects on ruminal parameters except for the percentage of protozoa.
