Özet: As heirs to the ancient Hippocratic legacy, we believe that professionalism requires more from the medical profession and from individual physicians than rhetoric and simple oath-taking. Instead, medical professionalism demands a continued renewal of both the profession’s and the individual physician’s commitment to clinical excellence and to caring for the patient. A special relationship exists between physicians and patients in the ED. Technical standards must be augmented with behaviors that enhance patient trust, provide emotional support, build an effective health care team, and promote continuous learning. In this article, we tried to define the need for professionalism in emergency medicine and the fundamental elements of professionalism.
