Özet: Periodic Health Examination (PHE), which is a regular health check performed to contribute to the protection of healthy people who do not show any symptoms yet, through screening, examination and laboratory tests, counseling and health literacy training, refers to the determination of health risk factors in individuals and the diagnosis of treatable diseases at an early stage and the reduction of disease rates. PHE is among the tasks of the Family Medicine health services in Turkey. It is quite limited or insufficient in terms of both PHE studies and scientific studies that show information about Information and Records Management employees' health status and preventive health practices. The aim of this study is to evaluate how Information and Records Management employees between the ages of 18-65 follow their periodic health examinations. The research type of the study is a cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample of the study consists of information and documentation center employess in Turkey. During the data collection phase, 693 information and document center employees answered the entire questionnaire between February 25 and April 30, 2019. The titles of the participants are academic staff, archive support staff, archive manager, archive specialist and assistant expert, library manager (head of department, manager, director) librarian and officer, and their institutions are public and municipal libraries, university libraries, school libraries and other public and private libraries and archives of the institutions. In accordance with the distribution of the data obtained, demographic features, the cancer and chronic disease status of the employees and their the families, the employees’ PHE awareness and PHE Follow-up Information System were evaluated statistically. Frequency distributions, correlation analyzes and descriptive analyzes were performed in the SPPS statistics program, and the results were evaluated according to p <.05 significance level. The findings of the study revealed the awareness of Information and Records Management employees regarding periodic examinations. The reasons for not following the periodic examinations, which have an important effect in the early diagnosis of chronic, diseases and cancer, were also evaluated. In addition, data on policies to be followed have been collected in order to increase their awareness on this issue and to follow up the examinations and health screenings they need to perform periodically. The results of the research reveal that the periodic health examination awareness of Information and Records Management employees is insufficient. 80.5% of the employees is not aware of the Periodic Health Examination guide implemented in Turkey. 68.1% of the participants does not know which examinations they should follow and 76.8% of them does not follow them regularly. In the data obtained in this study, it was seen that Information and Records Management employees' PHE knowledge levels were not sufficient, they did not know the PHE follow-up process and did not have sufficient health literacy knowledge. With this study, it is aimed to be a pioneer in increasing the health literacy, increasing the quality of life, and making effective use of preventive health services for Information and Record Management employees to follow the health examinations that they need to follow periodically.
