Özet: Ayaşlı ile Kiracıları which mentions 1930s’ atmosphere is the novel of Memduh Şevket Esendal, who is supposed as one of the members of literary canon. Esendal, who is also one of the administrators of CHP (Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi / Republican People’s Party), tells the story of the people who are nine-roomed apartment’s tenants. The most striking parts of the novel are the spatial depictions, critics of modernization and westernization politics of republic and the transformations of the ideal woman prototype. Although the writer claims the city of the novel is not Ankara, spatial references and critics related to bureautocratic phases points to the case of new capital’s corresponding age. Ankara is a pale and degenerate mediate space and a temporary station between İstanbul and “deep Anatolia” for the habitants of novel. The women characters of the novel, which are embodied with respect to temporality and somberness of space, afterwards turn into the absorbing components of narrative. The apart-ment of Ayaşlı is heterotopia in Foucauldian manner since it harbors gambling, sexual freedom and illegal works. In this paper, Ayaşlı ile Kiracıları is analyzed with respect to arranged arguments.
