Özet: Anıtkabir which has been built as the mausoleum of Turkish Republic’s founder and leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is a symbol place for Turkish Republic and Ankara, the capital city. After Ataturk passed away, leading government decided to build a mausoleum for Ataturk. Until Anıtkabir’s completion of construction, Ataturk’s funeral was placed temporarily to Ethnography Museum which was determined as temporary mausoleum. The government established commissions in order to determine construction site of Anıtkabir. As a result of the Commission’s works and voting in CHP Party Group Rasattepe had been determined as the construction site of Anıtkabir. During this process there had been arguments whether to build Anıtkabir at Çankaya or Rasattepe. Rasattepe elected as the construction site of Anıtkabir and in that period it was far away from the city centre and it was a barren hill. Rasattepe had been forested during and after construction. At the same time structuring around the area was inspected and got under control. By construction of Anıtkabir, Rasattepe became an impor-tant centre for Turkish Republic and Ankara, the capital city. In this work, determination process of Rasattepe where Anıtkabir was constructed and its morphological variation will be presented.
