Özet: Gated communities emerged in Turkey after 1980s and became widespread swiftly. These communities have a significant impact on the physical, social, economic and cultural structure of city and especially over the urban citizen. Concerns over the gated communities resulted in an increasing interest in the subject from a variety of disciplines.  This paper aims to discuss the ways the discipline of architecture has perceived and approached the phenomenon of gated communities. To do this, it surveys major journals in the field and reviews articles dealing with the subject of gated communities. Those articles located are first evaluated for their approach to the issue and the methodology they utilized in their work.  Secondly, these articles are evaluated chronologically in order to understand the process of transformation gated communities have undergone in time.
