Özet: Mardin is one of the world’s most important historical cities. This article aims to develop strategies and policies to guide the activities to preserve Mardin and qualify the city for the inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In this vein, the paper summarizes the activities carried out in the city till this date and discusses sustainable preservation policies to preserve and develop the historical, archeological and urban values. It also examines strategies and policies that need to be implemented for the city to qualify for the list of UNESCO World Heritage Cities. For this purpose, I will first discuss the urban fabric in the city and the features of civil architecture that needs protection and, secondly, I will present a summary of the preparation process of the “Mardin Management Plan”.
