Özet: This article aims to scrutinize the debates on integration of migrants from a historical perspective from the Ottomans to the contemporary Turkey, which has already become a country of immigration. Hence, it will primarily question the ways in which the state actors have so far perceived the migrants coming from different ethno-cultural and religious backgrounds. In doing so, American and European debates on integration will also be summarized to shed light upon similar debates in Turkey now. In the last section of the article, the current Law on Foreigners and International Protection enacted in April 2014 will be discussed with regard to the improvements it has brought to the integration of migrants in Turkey. The analysis of the new law will be based on an assumption that the European integration process has so far impacted on migration and integration laws the most, leading to the Europeanization of those laws through various policy transfers.
