Özet: In this study the role of children playgrounds in development process of urban spaces is investigated. The research area, Yeni Kent Gönyeli region in TRNC is one of the important locations where urban development rate is considerably high which has been the main reason for choosing this area as the case for this study. Within this context it has been aimed to produce recommendations for new solution in order to transform existing children playgrounds, in accordance with user demands in Yeni Kent Gönyeli, into livable playgrounds. Accordingly, physical analysis and modality, Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) method has been used in the study area. The study has three phase’s literature survey, physical analysis & questionnaires and evaluations. The first phase was focused on literature studies. In the second phase dealt with the physical analysis within environmental context in order to evaluate existing playgrounds on the basis of internationally accepted design criteria. In the third stage, in order to unveil the opinions and expectations of the children who are the users of these grounds, based on POE method a questionnaire is prepared and a survey was carried in the case area. Finally recommendations for solutions are made in order to transform children playgrounds into livable and user friendly urban spaces within development process of Yeni Kent Gönyeli.
