Özet: In this study, our aim is to compare the ideologies of ecological thought and environmental protectionism, which are taken into consideration as the two different types of the approaches relate with ecological problems. In this context, Social Ecology trend is chosen as a sample for ecological thought and Sustainable Development thought is chosen as a sample for environmental protectionism. The administration ideas of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development are compared according to the general frame of the study. First, ideological resources of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development are examined, in this context, the problem of the difference of ecological thought and environmental protectionism is introduced. Then, Social Ecology and Sustainable Development are comparisoned with regard to their ideological structures, -economically, politically, socially and culturally and administrative-. With reference to this basic, an analysis is realized on the liberty problem, view to the sovereign system, local governments, which are the basic elements of the ideology of the Social Ecology. Similarly, governance is examined as a administration approach also in Sustainable Development. In this sense, social ecology has a stance against capitalist production relations, influenced by anarchism and marxism, while the concept of sustainable development stays on a more liberal basis, based on its own freedom of economic activity. Sustainable development emphasized the market economy based on the competition as a prerequisite for the development of individual economic freedom. Social ecology argues that ecological contradictions arise from the nature of the capitalist system and thus advocates the idea of changing the "dominant system”. This point is the common point between Marxist ideology and social ecology.
