Özet: Its fantastic genre is a form of narration that contains unrealistic elements and has a fairy tale narrative structure. Its foundations are based on the curiosity that the human feeds against the unknown, and hence the mythical narratives. As a result of the developing technology, the demand and production for fantastic films have increased, and as a result, new productions of fantastic cinema, which has managed to gather many genres under one roof, have emerged that nourish the audience's escape psychology. As a matter of fact, fantastic films have the power to depict the real world through surreal elements, beyond being only one-dimensional productions produced to nurture escape psychology. In order to quickly convey the vast universes and the elements that make up this new world to the audience during the film period, it refers to the stereotypes that have already taken place in the minds of individuals and the archetypes that are observed in the repetition of the universal narrative structure. In this study, the characteristics of the fantastic genre, the development process in the cinema and the concept of stereotype will be discussed and the researches of researchers such as Propp, Todorov, Campbell and Jung will be discussed in the name of narrative structure, plot and figures. The aim of the study is to determine the classical narrative structure, archetypes and stereotypes in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy in the light of the obtained data, and to determine how the formation of figures and plot in the fantastic films are handled.
