Özet: Christian communities are an important part of the Islamic society in terms of demography. These communities which are separated along ethno-sectarian lines bearing enmity to one another, due to the deep theological divergences had become one of the major problems of the Islamic society. These problems, encountered in many different areas of life, have often confronted Muslim rulers with the responsibility of resolving such issues which they had difficulty understanding and comprehending. One of the most important problems that the Ottoman State had experienced in this context is the dispute amongst Christian communities on sacred places in Islamicjerusalem. The focal point of these disputes were the churches of Kamame (Holy Sepulchre) and Bethlehem. This paper examines the conflicts between Armenian and Syriac Christians over these two churches.
