Özet: The Crusades that took place between 1096-1291 are important events in understanding the World of Women in the Middle Ages. During these wars, as the Papacy was re-consolidating its own hierarchy with the help of political rulers, it must nonetheless be said that the greatest burden of war was attracted by the population. The Priests went to the monasteries and churches one by one asking for physical and financial support from the people in this war against Muslims. Additionally, those who could fight were asked to join the army and those who were rich were asked to give their goods for the sake of the holy cause. Women and children were also involved and were often persuaded to participate through sermons. Having heard these, some of the women participated in the war, with many having to bear the expenses of participation to their home and children. The names of some of the women who had participated in the war are well-known. However, historical sources report that tens of thousands of women who were not registered had also participated in the Crusades. The aim of this study is to reveal the situation of Christian women in the Crusades between 1099 and 1250 and to specify some of these women by name. In this context, Crusader women will be classified as those who participated in the war and those who did not. In the preparation of the study, the chronicles of the period were relied on and through these, the lives of women in the Crusades are explained. In addition, the study is enriched by contemporary works written in Turkish, German and English.
