Özet: Van, the capital of the Urartians, is suitable for irrigation systems depending on the climate conditions. Dams, canals and ponds were built by the kings of the period to increase agricultural production due to the availability of irrigation systems. The Minua (Shamram) Irrigation Canal, built in the Urartu Period and approximately 2,800 years ago, has a great importance for the city and geography of Van in historical and cultural terms. There are some threats to the survival of the Historic Irrigation Canal. Within the scope of this study, the factors that threaten the historical existence of the channel and that need to be intervened were determined. Due to the construction materials used in the construction of the historical irrigation canal, natural factors are the leading factors that threaten the irrigation canal. In addition to natural factors, human-induced damages have been identified due to incorrect planning and abuse. Considering the characteristics of the building materials used in the construction of the building, in the struggle of the factors that directly or indirectly cause the destruction of the texture of the historical building, both the history will be preserved and the irrigation channel will perform its primary function.
