Özet: The purpose of this study is to investigate the reasons for absenteeism of students who are absent from online education at the secondary school level during the Covid-19 pandemic process seen all over the world and in our country. In addition, within the scope of the research, students' opinions were taken about how the participating students spend their time during their absentee lessons, how they make up for the missing issues, what the consequences of their absenteeism might be, the approaches of families to their children regarding absenteeism, and what suggestions the students could be to continue their online education. Phenomenology design was used as one of the qualitative research methods in the study. The study group of the research consists of 30 girls and 50 boys, a total of 80 middle school students in a state-owned secondary school in Istanbul. A 9-item interview form was prepared to be used in the study, and this form was used when conducting semi-structured interviews with the students participating in the study. Descriptive analysis technique was chosen to analyze the data obtained from these interviews. According to student views; device deficiency and internet connection problems came to the fore, besides, psychological, familial and environmental factors and health factors were found to be effective in students' absenteeism from online education. The students made many suggestions such as providing devices to continue their online education, providing an internet connection, creating a suitable quiet environment, and presenting content that will increase the desire to participate in the lessons.
