Özet: Poljes are large karst landscapes that formed depend on the structural characteristics and solution processes of limestones. These are large closed karst depressions with flat alluvial bottoms which surrounded by steep slopes of at least one side. Structure, solution processes, and karst water drainage are the main factors that affect the development of poljes. Consequently, the development of poljes is controlled by many environmental factors, and in recent years, the formation processes and classification of the poljes were revealed in detail in many studies in international literature. Although poljes have wide spatial distribution on the Taurus Mountains, there are a few studies within this scope in Turkey. Therefore, in this study, the formation and classification of poljes are explained and illustrated by four examples from the Taurus Mountains. As a result, different from some of the previous studies, poljes cannot evaluate in one classification in most cases. It was concluded that it would be more accurate to classify as single (border, structural and baselevel), two (structural-border, structural-baselevel) and multi-character poljes.
