Özet: The items that bring the space together with the user and combine it with life are furniture. Furniture adds functionality to the space and makes life easier while shaping, directing and setting rules. In small spaces, a chair can be used to respond to eating, working and resting activities. There are many questions the designer needs to answer during the formatting of furniture. For what purpose furniture will be used and for whom. According to the function order, firstly, the question of the practical function, that is, what it will do is answered. Another step is the aesthetic function part. Furniture should look pleasing to the eye, belongs to the period it was designed and be able to offer the user a different effect. Finally, having the symbolic function features is the last step in finding the identity of the furniture at the design stage. Another link between the designer, the product and the user is the communication feature of the furniture. When creating a product, the designer also adds an idea or a message to the design. It is a feature other than its function and visual effect. With this message, the user can distinguish that design from similar furniture. The designer uses a variety of colors, materials or formal differences to create this message. Furniture design and production has gone through many stages from past to present with its periodic features. When looking at furniture making in the past, it can be produced by experienced craftsmen as a result of long efforts in carpenters. At that time, only the upper class people, nobles, rich or rulers (kings, lords) had the privilege of owning furniture. In the periodic development of the furniture, a backrest was formed in the furniture according to the life styles of the people, the seating surface was covered, the number of feet varied, the armrests were shaped, and different group furniture such as sitting, working, lying, eating and storage were produced. The Berjer armchair began to take shape during the Baroque period, and it began to take its place in the palaces with its versions during the Rejan period that emerged in France in the Rococo period. In this study, the factors affecting shaping the historical development of the armchair chair, the types and the development process from the first time it was produced to the present have been explained. Berjer armchairs are still preferred today because it is a timeless design.
