Özet: The establishment of economic activities linked to foreign investments in a country depends on the business climate that prevails there and its attractiveness for this type of investment. The institutional framework, in particular the investment law, by its consistency, its benevolence towards foreign investors and the equal treatment it grants to foreign companies compared to domestic producers, constitutes one of the core elements of any attractiveness of a national territory for FDI. This study aims to determine, through a retrospective examination covering the period from 1962 to 2016, the importance accorded in Algeria by the laws on foreign investments. The study shows that, if the economic doctrine of the Algerian state of independence until the end of the 1980s was rather hostile to FDI, the policy of economic liberalization which has been at work since this period was not characterized by a clearly defined position vis-à-vis foreign investment
