Özet: Attachment styles are influential on the behaviors of the individuals who are in relationships with one another. This study examined the Relationship of attachment styles with empathy and interpersonal problems. A sample of 370 university students (180 males, 180 females, 10 unknown) was included in this study. All participants completed the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ, Feeney et al., 1994), the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI, Davis, 1983); and the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems-64 (IIP-64, Horowitz et al. 1988). The results showed that secure attachment style had significant positive and negative correlation with empathy and interpersonal problems, respectively. Insecure attachment styles had significant negative and positive correlation with empathy and interpersonal problems, respectively. The results of regression analysis revealed that secure attachment style is shown to be the predicting 64 percent of the variance in empathy variable; insecure attachment styles are shown together explaining up to 73 percent of the variance interpersonal problems variable. The meaning and limitation of this study and the suggestion for the further study are discussed.
