Özet: Twenty six samples of riverbank soil along the study region were collected from different spots in October 2010. The Gamma-ray spectroscopy technique was applied in analyzing the samples. P-type detector with 38.5% relative efficiency was applied for detecting emitted-the gamma radiation of the soil samples. The samples special activities concentration ranges were from 15.97±0.22 to 32.87±0.51Bqkg-1for 226Ra, from 8.04±0.46 to 33.85±1.34Bqkg-1 for 232Th and 106.82±3.72 to471.35±10.08 Bqkg-1 for 40K with mean values of 25.21±4.52, 19.76±5.46 and 289.57±84.17 Bqkg-1, respectively. An artificial radionuclide, 137Cs, is found in %77 of the soil samples. The average radium equivalent value (75.7±8.4 Bqkg-1) due to natural radioactive material was about five times lower than recommended maximum value of 370 Bqkg-1. Radiological parameters indicate that no threatening risk was observed in the region. This article is the first regarding distribution of natural radionuclide in the Dez River, north of Khuzestan province in south west Iran. In the current research we reviewed other related studies conducted in similar regions of the world.
