Why Second Life? A Research Study with Second Life Residents

Özet: Second Life (SL) is a very popular 3D virtual platform.  A research study was carried out to find out reasons of SL’s is being chosen as a virtual environment by a huge number of people. One-to-one interviews were carried with 40 SL residents.  There are lots of advantages as well as disadvantages, mentioned by the residents.  Being an attractive place for learning is one of the most important advantages of SL. Although men and woman accessed to SL for different reasons, they agree that it can be a useful environment for distance education courses. Recommendations follows that SL should not be used in teenagers’ education since it may contain adult areas without strict restrictions. Next study of the researcher is about teachers views of education in SL environment.
