Özet: Tuberculosis (TB) is currently the leading cause of death from a curable infectious disease accounting for 8.7 million new cases globally in the year 2011, of which, India alone has contributed a quarter. Medical colleges have been regarded as the tertiary level health care centers and have a key role in the programmatic management. However, a wide range of lacunae have been identified in the medical education curriculum with respect to teaching of TB control. To counter the public health burden resulting because of TB in Indian set-up, there is an indispensable need for building a strong and mutual partnership between program managers, representatives from the medical colleges and the regulatory body, Medical Council of India. To conclude, medical students are the future health care providers in the community and thus well-informed medical students could definitely play a defining role in mitigating the burden of the tuberculosis in years to come.
