Özet: Basic design training leads students to produce functional and creative solutions design problems they face throughout their education period. Therefore, it contains a detailed program making them attain the ability to have professional knowledge and skills and be peculiar and innovative. The basis of the education of basic design, visual perception is thinking through eyes and regarded as the perception of an object chosen on purpose and to which attention is paid for an aesthetic purpose. Studies carried into visual perception point out that the definition of a form in brain brings about connotations depending on earlier knowledge and perception build-up. In addition, form and its perception allow symbolic and figurative values that are a reflection of the values of human culture to come to the fore. Visual perception of individuals can be improved through life experience and education, but it has a relation with their genders as well. In the current study, the effect of demographic features of the students taking the course of basic design at a university on visual perception skills was investigated. The qualitative differences of the students taking the course of basic design were compared and contrasted and tables were given. The developed data collection instrument was applied to the second grade students taking basic design training at Gazi University, Faculty of Art and Design, the Department of Graphic Education in Turkey. The results were tabulated and commented for a statistical assessment. At the end of the research, it was not found that the gender differentiations of the students taking the course of basic design had significant differences on their visual perception skills.
