Özet: Contextualism refers to an approach in urban planning which considers the city in its totality. It also emphasizes on the role of social, cultural, geographical, and historical influences on individual development since of the focus of increasing interest in understanding environment in contemporary architecture. This paper is an experimental approach toward understanding the influence of taken contextual aspects into consideration on architectural designings.Most under graduating students in Iranian architectural departments are ignoring the context’s role in desinings. Considering the fact that Design studios, in which designing lessons are taught, are the fundamental parts of educating architects, in studios contexualism should be highlighted. Regarding it, architectural designings in 4 different studios including Educational space, Cinema, Hospital, and Residential Space in Sooreh University in two semesters -in 2009-2010 year- among 20 groups, which were divided in two case and control units, have been evaluated. The final evaluation was the average of 9 different examinations in each group. These 9 examinations were the most important factors in contexual designing. It should be mentioned that the only difference between those two units- case and control units- was the site model. case units could adjust their designing to the model while the other group could design freely. Final evaluation showed that case unit’s designing gathered higher score. Needless to say that their approach in designing was closer to contextualism.
