Özet: Feature selection or attribute reduction is performed mainly to avoid the problem of ‘curse of dimensionality’ in the large database including musical sound classification. This problem is normally dealing with the irrelevant and redundant features which might decrease the overall classification performance. Several studies have been conducted on this issue. However, many of these studies focusing on Western music. Study of non-Western music is still scarce and need intensive research. Thus, this paper reviews several feature selection and classification techniques that have been applied in music genre and musical instrument sound classification problem focusing on Traditional Malay music.
