Özet: Once it was realized that it might be possible to harness the enormous power and flexibility that computers and Internet offer to the teaching of languages, development began to take place at a considerable rate. This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of Internet-based instruction and traditional method on reading comprehension ability of English learners. Forty two Iranian EFL learners were randomly assigned to two groups: An experimental group (n = 21) and a control group (n = 21). The participating groups were homogeneous in terms of language ability based on their scores on a proficiency test. The experimental group received Internet-based instruction through Wikipedia texts, e-mail, Internet Relay Chat, and online dictionary and the control group was taught by traditional-based mode for four weeks. The TOEFL reading comprehension test was given to both groups as a post-test. The results revealed the significant difference in favour of the experimental group. The findings indicated that participants assumed more gain in reading comprehension ability as a result of the Internet-based instruction given in this study. It is suggested that the result of this study might be used by language teachers who are interested in integrating Internet and language teaching.
