Özet:   The Malaysian Goverment have embarked on an ambitious project through the National Broadband Initiative to deliver broadband services to the whole country. The main aim of NBI was to enhance the broadband penetration rate in the country as Malaysia has the lowest rate amongst developed countries in Asia. Broadband network speed is an issue that most customers are fustrated with around the globe, and Malaysia is no exception to this issue too. Furthermore, Internet Service Providers can only provide a “best endeavours” service with a target data rate, however there is no gurantee that this is always attainable at all times This paper reports the initial outcome of measuring the cellular mobile broadband quality of service (QoS) in rural areas of West Malaysia (WM) as the communication infrastructure in these areas are poor. The measurement experiment was conducted using the services of two main service providers on similiar netbooks around the whole country. The results shows that there are many areas for improvements in providing broadband services to rural areas and these are highlighted in this paper.
