Özet: Infrared imaging is a method that allows the acquisition of information related to the spatial distribution of the examined scene, as well as the variation of this distribution in time. The system used must be capable of transforming an infrared image in a visible image. In other words, it is necessary to restore the distribution of visible luminance proportionally to the distribution of infrared luminance on the object. From a digital image, it would be convenient to retrieve the information relevant to the application, to process and to interpret it. Two kinds of image treatments were used: treatment of low level operating on the quantities calculated from the values attached to each point of the image (pixel) without binding with the reality that they represent, and high level treatment apply to symbolic nature entities associated with a representation of "reality" extracted from the image. The paper describes the general approach to the digital processing of infrared images and shows how the application of such steps can effectively use the information contained in the infrared images to solve problems in different fields of diagnosis and control.
