Özet: The advent of information technology has been the driving force behind 3D visualization in the last decade; favouring every facets of visualization. In data acquisition, sources of volume data are sampled data of real objects.  Sampled data are acquired by 2D or 3D multi-channel scanners that measure the real world object and usually produce a sequence of 2D cross sections of the object. Computed Tomography (CT) has been one of the major advancements in diagnostic radiology and oncology. CT scanners have developed tremendously over the last decade in terms of higher resolution and considerably decreased acquisition time. Recently, we have dual-energy CT, possibility of using two different X-ray technologies simultaneously. MRI, a non-ionizing technique, is also a promising tool for volume data. One of the blended-multimodal scanners in diagnostic imaging is PET/MRI. PET/MRI, as a non-ionizing technique, is seen to be a promising image technology. This paper surveys medical imaging modalities with emphasis on techniques and principles of CT and MRI. Clinical relevancies, advantages and disadvantages are reviewed. A comparative study on CT and other diagnostic tools for medical volume visualization is presented.
