Özet: Focusing on the solution of the current problem of university’s timetabling system, this paper can be another reference for researchers who are working on timetabling and scheduling research. This paper discussed the proposed solution, namely Zoning approach to solve some problems faced by the current timetabling system of University Utara Malaysia (UUM). Due to geographical factor of the university, the allocated lecture halls produced by the current timetabling system resulted the students and lecturers wasting their time moving from one lecture hall to another during lecture hours particularly when involving consecutive lectures. Not to mention the clashes problem occurred. To solve the listed problems, a proposed Zoning approach is presented and discussed towards improving the current system. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is then evaluated and discussed.
