A New Fair Load Balancing Method for Multiple Component Carriers in 3GPP LTE-Advanced System

Özet: In the wireless communication environment, the aim is to increase the performance and throughput of the network. In such a case, in the LTE-Advanced system, a peak data rate that values up to 1 Gbps in the downlink and 500 Mbps in the uplink is required to achieve the IMT-Advanced bandwidth requirement. This requirement needs to certainly broaden the bandwidth’s transmission to 100 MHz by exploiting the total aggregated bandwidths based on the carrier aggregation method. In this regard, this method has been used to aggregate five Component Carriers (CCs) that could form the 100 MHz bandwidth where each carrier forms 20 MHz bandwidth. This aggregation will lead to cover the LTE-Advanced bandwidth requirement where all the CCs could be seamlessly accessed by the user at the same time in the LTE-Advanced. However, in the LTE Release 8, only a single CC is allowed to be accessed by the user at a time instead of accessing all of the CCs simultaneously. Therefore, the performance of the network system will be affected causing degradation in the network load when multiple users are unfairly allocated in the CCs. This leads to such a problem called load balancing problem. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a fair method that can balance the load through the entire CCs in the LTE-Advanced system. As a matter of fact, the idea of a two well-known load balancing methods (Round Robin and Mobile Hashing methods) is combined to form the proposed load balancing method. The expected outcomes of our proposed method will perform better than the two previous proposed methods; Round Robin and Match Hashing (MH) methods.
