Özet: For learning events that require a close collaboration and knowledge transfer between learners and intelligent tutoring agents, design specifications should be introduced. At the beginning of design, a learning methodology that supports collaborative and expletory construction of knowledge should be identified. In addition, the roles of intelligent tutoring agents should be assigned. This paper investigates the specific roles of intelligent tutoring agents to support dialectical learning strategy that enable learners’ collaborative and autonomous exploration of knowledge. The Socratic Method is proposed as the dialectic learning method for autonomous exploration and collaboration for knowledge construction and a robotic tutor is proposed as the intelligent tutoring agent. This paper will be applicable for designing effective learning strategies for expletory and collaborative knowledge construction in autonomous ways and will be useful as a guideline for instructional designers, robot de-signers and teachers to understand the roles of intelligent tutoring agents in learning environments.
