Predicting Critical Gap Using Fuzzy Logic Method at Unsignalised Urban Intersections

Özet: Knowledge of the critical gap is of vital importance in traffic theory because it is a major parameter for capacity analysis. Until now, critical gap predicting models have been studied in quite a few papers. In all these studies although there is more than three effecting factors, three elements characterized the models. The aim of this study was to develop a critical gap predicting method based on Fuzzy Logic Model (FLM) by using all the effecting factors. Field data have been gathered from selected six unsignalised intersections in Isparta city using a video camera. Then, FLM has been developed and put into practice with field data. Results of critical gap values produced by the proposed FLM are given in a table and it is examined that when there is an unstable traffic flow, offset intersection geometry and wrong parking at the same time, it is possible to estimate the critical gap with FLM.
