Özet: Many significant developments in computer science have emerged since 20th century. Within the development of computer science, related developments have come into existence. In this context, development of information technologies also accompany with the development of computer science. Rise of geographical information systems (GIS) and immediately after the rise of information systems like urban information systems (UIS) have provided contribution to the development of many professions which are related with spatial activities. In this paper, the definitions of GIS and UIS have been introduced and relationship between them is examined. After the explanation and definition of GIS and UIS, recent developments in UIS like three dimensional visualization of UIS is introduced. In this context, some information about UIS in Turkey has been given and some proposals made for the future development of UIS in the country.
