Özet: This study investigates the combination of terrestrial truck-mounted laser scanners, which can rapidly collect large datasets of 3D geometry information in urban environments, with novel computational geometry approaches that can automatically identify and extract the 3D building objects from such datasets. The efficiency of the novel computational method is analyzed and compared with equivalent computing methods traditionally utilized to extract building objects from airborne data. The results of this study discuss the similarities and the differences between both approaches and highlight the potential for their combined use in order to automatically model the geometry of clustered urban environments.
