Özet: The impact of information has traditionally been measured through analysis of citations in articles published in scientific journals. However, this methodology is not suitable for measuring the impact of publications in social science disciplines, especially in non–English-speaking countries, because many of these disciplines are not included in citation analysis systems such as the Social Science Citation Index. In this situation, in 2004 a working group of the Faculty of Library and Information Science designed a system for determining the visibility of journals through their presence in databases and catalogues that analyze their quality, such as Latindex. This process was started manually by comparing the ISSN of the journals with lists of the journals indexed in each database and generating a numerical indicator that we called the Secondary Distribution Composite Index (ICDS). This paper describes the use of an agent software to perform these tasks, so a large number of journals can be covered and the data are constantly updated with a minimum use of human resources. The agent obtains and reviews the lists periodically and can also be activated on demand to determine the visibility at a given time of titles that are not included in the system. The automation of these tasks has improved the system and allowed the incorporation of new processes, such as social web features, automatic incorporation of suggestions and widgets for insertion in repositories.
