Özet: Nowadays, oil and gas industry transforms to the new stage of development. Particularly, it is becoming more relevant to precisely determinate the cost value of oil for each particular well and take measures to improve its efficiency. This real-world problem requires the handling of imprecision.In this paper we present a novel approach to estimate the well operational efficiency based on fuzzy sets and logic. Fuzzy mathematics manipulates imprecision by assuming fuzzy boundaries of a set. It can help to overcome the problem of uncertain information associated with well drilling parameters, like temperature, depth, gas formation, flow rate and pressure. They mainly influence the cost of oil production and are modeled as fuzzy sets in our system. We address the following issues involved in query processing: constructing the membership functions, defining fuzzy sets and hedges, creating crisp query from the given fuzzy query, executing it and displaying the results.Our methodology makes it possible to intelligently retrieve the records via fuzzy query, like “Find the wells which are more-or-less effective in the sense of flow rate but use not very high temperature", or “Show the list of wells which are highly operationally effective”, which cannot be done using a standard query mechanism. Obviously, such type of interface is much more convenient for experts, because they can be free of using exotic crisp phrases that major querying systems require.
