Özet: Image pulse sensors provide pixel information encoded in a pulse train based on Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) technique. PFM sensors are often used in vision chips considering the related advantages. The realization of digital image processing algorithms in pulse domain may lead to an improvement in both performance and efficiency of the related circuits. In this paper, the edge detection and the contrast enhancement algorithms are analyzed and implemented in pulse domain using suppression and promotion techniques for both gray level and color images. Compared to classical methods, the proposed algorithms result in a simpler implementation as well as in lower power consumption if integrated in digital cameras. Designing and implementing the pulse-domain algorithms on FPGA, a simple and fast realization of image processing methods for edge detection and contrast enhancement is presented in this paper. Also, the integration of proposed design in cameras is discussed and evaluated in terms of circuit complexity, image quality as well as computational load. Proposed algorithms exhibit an overall improvement in terms of image quality and circuit complexity.
